The Department of fashion and Apparel Design at Central College Campus was established in 2002 as part of the University Industry Interaction Program to provide students with the opportunity to pursue a career in the fashion and apparel industries. The department has been continuing since 2018 after being trifurcation by Bengaluru City University, it located at Central College Campus and has also been working as a knowledge service provider by offering a four-semester Master of Science in Fashion & Apparel Design that seeks to develop and promulgate knowledge. The course provides students with an opportunity for a career in apparel and related industries and also to pursue research. The programme is designed to cater to the growing demands for manpower proficient in Designing, Merchandising, Production, Buying Houses, Designer Boutiques Quality and Retailing for the Clothing and Textile industry.

The successful alumni of the department have been working as Fashion Designers, Merchandisers, Quality Control Coordinator, Production Assistants, Retail Sales Representatives, Visual Merchandisers, etc., in reputed organizations, along with starting up their own businesses. The department is excelling in achieving 100% results and rankings.

Eligibility Bachelor’s Degree examination in Fashion & Apparel Design / Costume and Fashion Designing/ Garment Manufacturing Technology / Textile Technology / Apparel & Fashion Technology / Fashion Designing / Costume & Apparel Design from any recognized University / Institute and have not secured less than 50% of marks in aggregate in optional subjects are eligible for admission. For sponsored candidates: Bachelor’s degree from recognized University with not less than 50% of marks in aggregate in optional subjects and employed in a reputed institution / organization in a responsible position with a minimum of 3 years of experience in the area of Apparel / Textile / Fashion Design.

Laboratory

The Department has spacious class rooms equipped with audio visual teaching aids, Department Library & separate laboratories for Designing, Draping. Sewing, CAD, Chemical Processing, Textile and Apparel Testing.  Major instruments available in the Department:Moisture Management Tester, Universal Testing Machine, Gretag Macbeth 7000A Spectrophotometer, Flammability Tester, FAST system, US-Vis Spectrophotometer, Trinocular Research Microscope, Repellency Tester, Digital Bursting Strength Tester, Gerber Pattern making Software, Fashion Art Software, Reach Fashion Studio, Barudan Embroidery Machine, Juki Industrial Sewing Machines, HTHP Dyeing Machine, Lab Winch, Padding Mangle, Stenter &Laundero Meter.

Library

There are more than 1000 books in the department where students can access, which provides an enormous range of books in Fashion, Textiles, Garment Technology, Illustration, Computer Aided Designing & many more. Along with the department library they can also access the main library for Fashion related books, magazines & journals.

Industry Visit

The course provides ample practical exposure to the students through frequent visits to manufacturing facilities, retail stores, testing facilities, exhibitions, trade fairs, art galleries for better understanding of the processes and prevailing market trends.

Special lectures by eminent personalities from textile, apparel & retail industry, research organizations, testing laboratories, designers & entrepreneurs are arranged on a regular basis which provides a platform for the students to interact with the experts to keep abreast with latest trends.
